This year’s Denma Trophy competition at Bridgend Municipal Bowling Club was held on Sunday, July 9.
There were 17 entrants drawn from both the ladies and men’s sections. These were divided into four separate mixed groups who played against each other each on a round-robin basis until two from each group emerged as quarter-finalists.
The ladies president, Mrs Lil Martin, went on to appear among the semi-finalists, all of whom played very well.
The eventual winner of the final that was played over nine ends was the men’s president, Mr Peter Anderson. The runner-up was club member Mr Fraser Robinson, and pictured is Mr Anderson receiving the Denma Trophy from the ladies secretary Mrs Liz Anderson - his proud wife!
The runner-up was Mr Fraser Robinson and standing to the extreme right of Mrs Anderson; Fraser had graciously accepted defeat after the eighth end when the score was 7-5 as it was a two woods competition.
Standing on the far left is Mr Jeff Phillips (men’s captain) who organised the event and marked the final.
It was a beautiful day as play progressed and thanks to the hard working ladies of the club, food and liquid refreshments in plenty were on hand throughout the day.
Have you considered trying your hand at bowling? We are currently looking for new recruits and you would be most welcome to come and give it a try?
