The plan to build a maritime centre next to Porthcawl Marina has taken another step forward as the company that will build it – starting work in October this year – has been named.
Porthcawl Harbourside CIC has announced that Andrew Scott Ltd has been chosen to construct the Porthcawl Maritime Centre.
The Porthcawl Harbourside team will now work with Andrew Scott in developing the design of the Maritime Centre, with the aim of starting the main construction in October 2017.
It is expected that the construction period itself will provide a range of learning and development opportunities for the local community, including apprenticeships, work placements, jobs and opportunities for local suppliers.
The Porthcawl Maritime Centre, once developed, aims to provide learning and development opportunities, provide employment opportunities, increase tourism and visitor income and make a huge difference in the local, regional and national economic landscape.
Mike Clarke, chairman of Porthcawl Harbourside CIC said:?“This is a fabulous milestone for Porthcawl Harbourside CIC and our hardworking team.
“Following a rigorous tender process with interest from a high number of quality companies, we are delighted to announce Andrew Scott as our construction business partner.
“Port Talbot-based Andrew Scott has a long standing reputation for constructing major high quality projects. We look forward to working together to deliver a project of which Porthcawl can be proud.”
Mark Bowen, managing director of Andrew Scott Ltd, said:?“The Maritime Center is set to become a vibrant visitor destination, and we are excited to be involved in such a landmark project that will enhance the tourism sector for Porthcawl and the south Wales coast.”
