Newydd Housing Association has donated £2,000 to SAINTS, a charity in St Athan that has been set up to improve play areas in the locality.

Set up a year ago by local residents Lisa Austin, Hannah Dineen, Charlotte Jennings, Sally Gardener and Coun David Elston, it aims to develop play areas in St Athan to “bring the community closer together.”

The group says it wants children to respect the area and grow up feeling proud of where they live.

The charity’s immediate focus is to improve the park in the village, before looking at other play facilities in the area. To achieve this, SAINTS charity hosted fundraising events, including a family fun day, which has helped to raise more than £1,500.

Lisa Austin, founder of the charity, said: “We set it up to improve the community spirit and to create a safe play environment for the children to socialise.

“Nothing has happened in the area for a long time and these changes create a positive impact on people’s minds. Thank you to Newydd for the contribution, it will go a long way!”

Newydd’s £2,000 is the single biggest contribution the charity has received.
